David Sorokoty called the meeting to order at 7:05 p. m. then turned the meeting over to Deborah Hudson.

Presentation:

Deborah opened her presentation to the Council with a question, “Where are we now?”  She asked the Council what were their collective goals and visions for the Town and how far into the future did they want to plan for.

The meeting was a brainstorming session focusing on preparing the Town’s Mission Statement.  Deborah passed out examples of different kinds of mission statements for the Council to review along with statements.  She offered examples and a sheet advising what to consider when writing a statement.  They brainstormed a list of core values and beliefs that they consider to be important to the Town.  Many ideas were suggested to be values and placed on the list.  After the list was compiled Deborah went through it looking closely at each idea and asked the Council members to defend or object to whether the idea would be appropriate for a core value or belief.   She suggested the Council review the final list and examine each idea more thoroughly on their own.  She also requested them to complete the packet of information she gave them to work on earlier in the month and return it to her as soon as possible.

Everyone agreed that there should be further discussion and work sessions to develop a mission statement for the Town and to determine goals for the future.  Mike Cornman suggested the Council have a “retreat” away from the Town forum to achieve better results.

Miscellaneous Topics:

Deborah briefly mentioned she had been working on the Personnel Policy and showed a rough draft to give the size of the policy and the extensive amount of changes that needed to be made.  She also passed out a “Drug Free Policy” document for the Council to review.

Deborah explained that she has been shopping around for the best deal and highest quality of computer for her office.  She said she felt like a lap top computer would be more compatible with her position since she attended meetings away from the office and felt it would be more beneficial to have one that was portable.  Also with appropriate software presentations could be given with a lap top computer.  She said that she had gone to Gateway and could purchase a lap top for approximately $2,100 and asked the Council if she could proceed with this purchase.  All agreed she could.  [Note:  After the meeting Donya asked David Sorokoty if they should have voted officially to okay Deborah purchasing the computer and after a brief discussion they all agreed that since it was already approved within the budget that they did not have to vote on the issue.]

Deborah also informed the Council that she is looking into getting a package deal for the Town on cellular phones and has a meeting scheduled tomorrow with a representative.
