Old Business
Skate Park
The
Board held a general discussion relative to the condition and readiness of the Skate Park
facility and strongly urged the Skate Park
parties present to consider using the Build Indiana Funds to purchase ramps and
other appropriate equipment to make the park operational. Kathy Cerajeski asked
the Board to allow their volunteer efforts to continue through this season. Art
noted the exclusion of temporary structures in the insurance language and asked
if Deborah Hudson could have the insurance carrier define this status so we
know whether to have everything bolted down. The Board prefers to have the
ramps, rails, etc. all bolted down for safety reasons. Edwin agreed to develop
a maintenance checklist for the June 4th meeting and review this
with the Skate Park Committee. By consensus, the Board agreed to an additional
special meeting at the Skate Park on
Saturday, May 11th at 8:00am to
review the items to be removed, repaired, and replaced with the Skate Park
volunteers. Rules to be posted, the types
of signs we will utilize, and the rental signs will be discussed on Saturday.
Kathy Cerajeski volunteered to handle the advertisement for another year. The
advertising signs are $215.00 each and then $35.00 per month to rent the space,
however the rental has not been collected for some time. The Skate Park
volunteers agreed to have all items addressed by the June 4th Board
meeting.
Well Site Woodland Park
The entries of the name the park contest were
reviewed and the winning entry of the “Wishing Well Nature Park” was selected by the Board
on a vote of 4-0. Mary Hudson submitted the winning name. Darlyne will notify
her and arrange for her to receive the Holiday World tickets that the
Ellettsville Journal provided as a prize.
Darlyne reported that the students have continued to
work on the north side of the park. L.D. commented that they have really done a
good job and suggested that we reward them with a weenie roast. Art, Edwin, and
Dave each agreed to provide a $20.00 donation to fund hotdogs, drinks, etc.
Darlyne will check with the school to see when it would be appropriate to have
a weenie roast for the kids who have participated.
New Business
Darlyne reported that the entrance
to Campbell’s Park would be dramatically changed due to the new
highway. In order to access the parking area, cars will need to travel past the
park, east towards Bloomington, turn at the new Hartstrait light and then turn
back west on the old Hartstrait to a dead end to enter. Darlyne asked the Board
if other options should be presented and feels that it makes more sense for
entry off Park Street. The Board agreed to review
this on Saturday to make a recommendation to the Town for its consideration and
feedback to the Highway Department.
Other
The
next meeting of the Parks Board will be 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 4, 2002 at the Town Hall.
Adjournment
Art Moynihan made a motion to adjourn the meeting.
Edwin Macatangay seconded the motion. Motion passed 4-0 and the meeting
adjourned at 9:25 p.m.
