5-Year Master
Plan
Dave Sorokoty reported that it is not possible for Indiana University students to take on the creation of a 5-Year Master Plan as it is too involved and lengthy a process. The Professor Dave discussed this project with stated that it will probably take a year and no student group could sustain that type of time commitment. Darlyne had received some information from an engineering group that prepares Master Plans for parks and communities (Congdon Engineering Associates). Art Moynihan agreed to contact them to learn of costs and their availability to discuss options with the Board.
No one from the Skate Park Advisory Committee was present at tonight’s meeting.
Dave Sorokoty reported that the
park is in good general condition. Dave feels that the Board should consider
replacing wooden structures in the
Darlyne reported that the grant of $270.00 to create a mural was to have been completed by the end of October and she is unaware of any plans or progress towards its completion. Darlyne will see if it is possible to extend the grant until we can learn if any progress has been made on this project. If extension is not possible, the Board, by consensus, instructed Darlyne to return the grant funds.
Park Usage appears to have dwindled to two or three skaters, appears that safety equipment is often not worn, and an occasional bike might be present. This decline is most likely a combination of school starting and weather changing. Signs relative to rules and use of safety equipment remain clearly posted at the park.
Darlyne reported that the trails were sprayed at a cost of $200.00, well under the estimated cost. Additionally, Darlyne asked Jim Ragle to bring wood chips created as an aftermath of the tornado to the park for placement on the trail.
Jim Rubbish, Asst. School Superintendent, has coordinated students in placing wood chips. The students will work through October 17th.
The Board discussed the
possibility of a workday at the park. Edwin Macatangay agreed to coordinate
this effort for Saturday, October 19th
Edwin will borrow the Gator from the school. Dave Sorokoty said he could borrow rakes and shovels. Everyone will try to line up volunteers to support this workday.
Dave Sorokoty reported that discussions with landowners continue to take place, but no final conclusion has been reached as of this date. Additionally, Dave stated that the long-range plans might include an extension of Sycamore to Highway 46 to aid in bus movement. That being said, Dave asks that the Parks Board work within the current fence line relative to Park use as final determination of land use may be well into the future.
