The Ellettsville Parks and Recreation Board met on Monday, April 7, 2008 at the Fire Department Training and Conference Center. Jimmie Durnil called the meeting to order at 5:30 pm and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Members present were Jimmie Durnil, President; Geraldine McIntyre, Vice-President; Amber Ragle, Michael Griffey and Richard Pease.

Approve Minutes of March 3, 2008

Geraldine McIntyre made a motion to approve the minutes of the March 3, 2008 meeting. Michael Griffey seconded. Motion carried.

Review Accounts Payable Expenditures

Amber Ragle stated the electric bills were paid and also a pay out for Ron Wayt who attended the first Parks Board meeting of the year.

New Business

Beautification of Islands

Amber Ragle explained the Town was interested in having flowers planted at both gateways. Last year $700 - $750 was spent. Amber spoke with Mike Farmer, Utilities Department, who stated they would be willing to fertilize the islands and True Value quoted $225 for the fertilizer. Amber asked the Board to approve $1,000 for flowers and treatment. There is $5,700 in the Materials line of the Parks budget. Monroe County Mulch planted the flowers last year. Some of those will come back each year and there will be added for this year.

Geraldine McIntyre made a motion that we approve $1,000 for the gateway beautification. Richard Pease seconded. Motion carried.

Shelter House

Jimmie Durnil was informed before the meeting that the Christian Church decided not to use the Shelter House May 16-18. Pricing was not a factor and he would like to see the community use it. Amber announced she has two Shelter House rentals for this year on the calendar.

Monroe County Parks and Recreation

Jimmie Durnil stated the Parks Board received an invitation from the Monroe County Parks and Recreation Board for noon on April 29, 2008 at the Mayfield Ballroom.

Michal Griffey informed the Board the children have already started moving and using the tables for skateboarding. The Police need to patrol the area and catch them in the act. Jimmie Durnil will contact Tony Bowlen, Town Marshal, to set up a meeting to record the problem before the tables are moved back to where they belong.

Geraldine McIntyre asked about the conditions of the grills at the Shelter Houses and the basketball goals. Michael Griffey answered the grills were in good shape and pretty durable. The Street Department has not put the basketball goals up that were taken down in the winter.

Amber Ragle announced the next meeting will be held Wednesday, May 7, 2008 due to the setting up of the elections.
